 VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

NEW FAMILY OUTREACH
Each year, many new families joining the RHSM community need others to befriend them and keep them informed as to “what’s happening”.  Host a welcoming social during school orientation.  Be available to answer questions and introduce new families to others.

FACULTY APPRECIATION
The Faculty Appreciation committee provides a meal for the teachers and staff during parent/teacher conferences in October and February.  Volunteers are needed to help with meal preparation and clean up.

HOSPITALITY
If you enjoy the “cookies and punch” angle of Home and School volunteering, this committee provides donuts and/or bagels for the first day of school, refreshments for Back-to-School night and the Eighth grade graduation reception (if you are a middle school parent) and other events as requested. (August, September, June

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
Our Emergency Preparedness chairperson evaluates the current disaster supplies and assesses what is needed.  Volunteers may assist with emergency drills.

GRADE LEVEL SOCIAL HOSTS
Each fall, parents of students in each grade get together for an informal evening. The grade reps organize the evening but we need one family from each grade to host this social in their home.  The average attendance at these parties is approximately thirty people.  The food is “potluck.”

HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
If you would like to be more involved in Home and School, consider being a grade rep, committee chair or board member. In the spring of 2009, we will be nominating the Home and School Association Executive Board for the 2009-2010 school year.  Grade Reps organize the parent social in the fall. They also comprise the emergency phone tree and would be asked to enact this in the case of a pre planned drill or real emergency. Middle School grade reps also provide refreshments for one of each of the three school dances (6th grade-Spring Luau, 7th grade Holiday dance, 8th grade-Harvest Dance)

ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB
This group needs parents to help support the athletes playing on our school teams.  This could involve bringing treats to away games, selling concessions at home games, or running the scoreboard. Volunteers are needed for each sport only for that season or for coordinator positions which are year long.

PATRONS OF THE ARTS
The music, drama and dance departments use parental help in getting their productions to the stage.  This group is involved in all phases of production as requested by the faculty advisor.  If you are interested in helping with these productions, sign up.

CANDLE AND CAROL
This is an evening event in December for the upper school students and families to begin the holiday season. Home and School provides food and beverages for the reception following the ceremony.
